Stop, Take A Breath - And Appreciate How Far You've Come

advice mindset Jun 04, 2023

How do you feel about your Jiu-Jitsu? Like, right now, at this very moment?
What do you think of it?

Chances are that you don't feel excellent. But that you'd like to be better at it, that you'd like to improve faster, that you're thinking how you're not really talented...
There are all sorts of negative thoughts bubbling up inside your head. And you're feeling kind of down.

But here's the thing. You should stop for a second, take a breath... And appreciate how far you've come.

YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY

You could've just stayed at home and never stepped a foot on the mats, right? And yet you didn't, but you mustered up the courage and went for it anyway.

You've pushed through so many bad training sessions... So many drills where you didn't really understand the technique, so many rolls where you spectacularly failed in pulling it off, and so many 6-minute rounds where you've been tapped out for more than 6 times.
And yet, here you are. Still going.

Because, make no mistake about it. BJJ is one of the toughest things you'll ever do in your life.
There's no luck involved in it. The results come only after a very long time, lots of sacrifices and perseverance.

So, just the fact that you're still here - still on the mats, still powering through - is a sign that you're bound to fulfill your Jiu-Jitsu potential.
Because you've come such a long way since you started. You're immeasurably better than you were back then... And now just imagine how good you'll be in a few years' time.

The time will pass anyway. Better invest it into yourself.
Like you've been doing so far.
