Reminder: Rest As Hard As You Train

advice recovery tips Aug 11, 2023

You're training hard, right?
You're focused every training session and you always at least attempt to push yourself to the limits, because you want to improve as fast as possible and as best as you possibly can.

But let's be honest for a second. If you love training Jiu-Jitsu, then training hard is... Kind of easy, isn't it?
It comes naturally. And, even though you may sometimes "hate" it (especially when you're on the verge of puking after some competitive rounds), at the end of the day you're looking forward to the next one.

And what doesn't come easily? Let us guess: rest.
Sitting out that one training session and taking that one (or two) rest day(s). That's what is much more difficult then drenching yourself in sweat.

But here's the point. You need to rest as hard as you train. Or even harder than that.

Because that is when your body will recover from all those grueling drilling and rolling sessions. It's when all those aches and pains will have an opportunity to subside and not evolve into injuries...
And, well, it's also the time when those injuries you keep training through (yes, we know you are) have a chance to get slightly better. And, hopefully, not become chronic.

Though, sure, you can ignore rest. And you can keep going pedal to the metal for as long as you can.
But you won't be able to do it for too long. The fatigue is going to catch up, as well as plateaus in your progress. And injuries, which then might sidetrack you for far longer than if you were to just take that one or two days of rest per week.

So, let this be a reminder. Quality rest is going to pay off big time.
