How To ALWAYS Be Motivated For Jiu-Jitsu?

advice mindset motivation Mar 29, 2023

Wouldn't it be great to be motivated for Jiu-Jitsu... Every single day?

To wake up excited about the class that's waiting at 6am.
Or to sprint out of work at 5pm, full of energy and drive to get those drills in.

Wouldn't that be amazing? After all, it must be the case for all the world champions out there, right?
They had to stay motivated throughout all those years (and even decades) of training. The early and late hours, the cramps, insufficient rest, injuries, doubts, numerous sacrifices...

Otherwise, they surely wouldn't be able to achieve all of their successes? So there must be a way to make yourself motivated all the time.
If they can do it, you could do it as well... Right?

MOTIVATION ISN'T FOREVER, BUT...

Well, hate to break it to you but - you've been wrong. There is no way to stay motivated for training all the time.
And no. World-class athletes aren't always motivated to train either. But they have something much more important, something they can always rely on.

What's that, you ask? It's their unwavering discipline.
Discipline keeps them consistent when they don't feel motivated to "go for it". It's the habit of doing what you're supposed to do, whether you feel like it or not.

And sure, it's easier said than done and, at times, it's extremely difficult to follow through...
But do you know what's even more difficult? Getting the motivation back after a couple of days, only to realize that you've wasted several of them beforehand. That you weren't on the mats when you should've been.

Because, here's the thing. Motivation will come back. But you can't rely on it to keep moving forward.
Instead, you have to rely on your discipline. On building a habit of doing what's necessary, even when you don't feel like it, as this is the only way you'll stay consistent enough to be able to reach your full potential.

And guess what - you'll not only improve much faster and be much more satisfied with yourself when you rely on discipline.
But you'll also find that your motivation will be stronger and returning much faster than it used to.

It's not about having indefinite motivation. It's about making your discipline timeless.
