Consistency: The Key To Staying In Love With BJJ

advice tips training Mar 30, 2024

Many BJJ practitioners have a goal of training for as late into their life as possible.
Through my own journey, I've discovered that there's one essential principle to achieving this: and that's consistency.

Consistency is crucial. Because, even if you can't train every day, fitting in sessions whenever possible makes a significant difference.
Keeping a connection to the sport, even during busy, stressful, and too-much-stuff-to-do times, helps maintain skills and enthusiasm. As well as your health.

That is to say: you don't have to make BJJ the center of your life to benefit from it. Integrating it into your routine, even with other commitments, keeps you on track.
And when life gets in the way, like with injuries or other obligations, it's important to see those breaks as temporary pauses, not permanent stops.

One of the best things about BJJ is that you can do it for your whole life. Whether you're young or old, the journey on the mats is always there.
Even myself, I've learned to take things at my own pace and not worry too much about getting better quickly. The journey is so much more important than the goal ever could be.

So, my advice to you is simple: keep showing up, keep training, and keep the passion alive, even if it's just for a short session each week.
Every moment on the mats counts toward practicing the Gentle Art for a lifetime.
